S1 E13 Moving Forward with Mark Myers
How does grief affect our relationships with other family members including our children and spouses? How does one continue leading a family on the path to holiness after a tragedy? And, more importantly, how does one go about maintaining a relationship with God after the significant loss of a loved one? In this week’s episode, Jennifer interviews Mark Myers, author of Missing Kylie: A Father's Search for Meaning in Tragedy, about some of the different dynamics within relationships when it comes to grief. Mark has always been a firm believer that humor can be found in nearly everything. He has been married to his very patient wife, Robin, for 31 years, and the two have four daughters, two cats, and two handicapped mutts. On April 9, 2014, his youngest daughter, Kylie, was diagnosed with cancer. She fought bravely with a smile for ten months until her battered body succumbed to the disease on February 13, 2015. Since that day, he has seen and cried more tears than he ever imagined. And yet, he tries to emulate Kylie’s remarkable ability to steal joy from her dreadful circumstances. He loves to build furniture, read, and write. In his writing, he tries to be genuine and honest about the pain of loss while always leading with a smile, just like Kylie. Laughter and tears can coexist. Mark joined CURE Childhood Cancer as the Director of Communications in 2016 and feels called to find a cure for the disease that took his little girl. In loving memory of Kylie Myers and Owen Day.
